‘White Space’ Airwaves Opened for Future Cellular and Wi-Fi Enhancements – Mac Rumors

that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has voted to open up unused portions of the television broadcast frequency spectrum, known as white spaces, for unlicensed uses, paving the way for the development of technologies such as cellular communications and broad-range Wi-Fi networks to take advantage of the frequencies.

The possibilities for this are tremendous… Most likely with be the costs that the carriers will want to charge us… kind of like sms messenging that piggybacks on dead voice time in the towers that they charge us $30/month for "family plans". Or the fact that they bill it as "data", but it is not rolled into your unlimited "data plan"…
